Spirit Forum: Monthly Interfaith Discussions

Spirit Forum is a series of monthly brown bag lunches and intimate conversations among people of all cultures and faiths. The theme of the series is ‘Awakening the Spirit Within’ and the intent is to discern the essence of life in all life so that we might develop a deeper appreciation for our planet, its life-giving resources and all the relationships that make life so dear.

The program includes time to network, a keynote speaker, opportunity to share in triads and closing remarks. Please bring your lunch – tea and water will be served.

Mr. Terry Cross will give the keynote talk for the November 5 Spirit Forum.

Terry L. Cross, MSW, ACSW, LCSW, is an enrolled member of the Seneca Nation. He is the developer and founder of National Indian Child Welfare Association (NICWA). His highest honor has been to be initiated into the Kenai Chieftain Society by the Blood Tribe of Canada.

Terry is the author of the Heritage and Helping and Positive Indian Parenting curricula, as well as Cross-Cultural Skills in Indian Child Welfare. Terry also co-authored Toward a Culturally Competent System of Care published by Georgetown University, Child Development Center and has contributed numerous articles, chapters, and reports to the Indian social work literature.

Terry has 37 years of experience in child welfare, including 10 years working directly with children and families. He served on the faculty of Portland State University School of Social Work for 15 years. He has directed NICWA since its founding in 1983 and has traveled to make presentations internationally in relation to child welfare work. Terry is experienced in evaluation design and policy-related research, non-profit management, fundraising, community and organizational development, and governmental affairs and advocacy. He has organized culturally specific technical assistance programs for over 15 years and developed culturally based models for social services, research, and organizational development.
