Bahá'í children's magazine captures national award for second year

Brilliant Star magazine

Brilliant Star, a bimonthly children’s magazine published by the National Spiritual Assembly of the Baha'is of the United States, has won an APEX 2008 Award of Excellence for the second year in a row.

Brilliant Star encourages its 8-12-year-old subscribers -- who come from diverse backgrounds, cultures and faiths, and reside in more than 40 countries -- to explore their role as world citizens.

Through features such as profiles of subscribers and successful Baha'is; stories on central figures of the Baha'i Faith; puzzles, projects and games; and facts about the Faith, Brilliant Star emphasizes world peace, the equality of women and men, the elimination of prejudices and poverty; and the sustainable development and protection of our fragile planet.

The publication also promotes universal values of good character, such as kindness, courage, creativity and helpfulness.

Now in their twentieth year, the Apex awards, sponsored by the editors of Writing That Works: The Business Communications Report, honor excellence in graphic design, editorial content and the ability to achieve overall communications excellence.
