Interfaith Advocacy Day
Interfaith Advocacy Day 2011 will bring together several hundred people of many religious traditions from throughout Oregon for a day of worship, dialogue and advocacy with state legislators on behalf of those Oregonians struggling to survive in the current economic climate.
In the face of a $3.5 billion state budget shortfall, those of many religious traditions and beliefs will unite in calling for full funding of critical state programs that keep families and individuals fed, housed and healthy—programs such as Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Emergency Housing Account, emergency food, and health care programs such as the Oregon Health Plan, the Healthy Kids program, and long-term care programs for seniors and the disabled.
Interfaith Advocacy Day will include worship, advocacy and issue trainings, and prayer and reflection. The keynote address will be delivered by Bruce Goldberg, M.D., Director of the Oregon Department of Human Services. After lunch, participants will march to the Capitol where they will meet with their legislators.
