"Please Join us on Saturday, December 11 at 2:15pm ET for a panel conversation with members of the Patricia Locke Foundation. Native American traditional storyteller, cultural ambassador, recording artist and educator, Kevin Locke will be sharing an alternative Indigenous Land Acknowledgment Centered on Spiritual Reality that the Patricia Locke Foundation developed.
The act of making a “land acknowledgement “, while honorable and respectful may not elevate the discourse above the material realm and may evoke discomfort and defensiveness on the part of the invading descendants as well as resentment and anger over injustices from the Indigenous people. An alternative advocated in this presentation is to honor the legacy / footsteps of the Holy Ones who walked and taught the universal golden rule upon this land thousands of years ago. In a land acknowledgment centered on spiritual reality, a mention of the presence of these Great Ones can be made and a joint pledge can be offered in their honor to continued peace and goodwill. This practice will affirm those universal principles and teachings that enable us all to abide beneath shade of the Tree of Life and to walk the straight path together." Click here to register.
"Join us on Sunday, December 12 at 4pm ET for an uplifting, virtual, 30-minute racial justice-focused devotional consisting of prayers, readings and video content, celebrating the vision of the oneness of mankind.
Each devotional is followed by a conversation led by individuals dedicated to fostering cross-racial friendships - an essential step toward the elimination of racism.
This is a safe, loving space to share and learn about our common humanity. The destiny of mankind is the realization of our collective oneness. Our question then is: “How long will it take to achieve our destiny and how much pain will we experience collectively until we arrive?”
This session is held in meeting-style and attendants are encouraged to participate in the conversation." Click here to register.
Upcoming Course from The Wilmette Institute:
"World Peace: The Bahá'í Perspective. World Peace has long been a dream, a vision, and a motivator to action for individuals, organizations of civil society, national governments, and international bodies. In October 1985 the global Bahá’í community’s world governing council, the Universal House of Justice, issued a ground-breaking document, The Promise of World Peace, addressed ‘To the Peoples of the World’. It sets out principles and processes which can lead to a peaceful world.
Since 1985, conditions in the world have changed immensely. After a period during which universal peace seemed to be within grasp, new challenges have emerged and intensified. On 18th January 2019 the Universal House of Justice addressed a letter to the Bahá'ís of the world, reviewing the progress of the world towards lasting universal peace since 1985. Today, many of the dominant currents in societies everywhere are pushing people apart, not drawing them together. And yet, the candle hope of global peace remains alight in the hearts of many. The message of The Promise of World Peace is still valid: ‘World peace is not only possible but inevitable.’
We will study and reflect upon the Universal House of Justice’s 18th January 2019 message to the Bahá'ís of the World, alongside The Promise of World Peace and a number of other important sources. The aim of the course is to help us to build our capacity to engage in public discourses and social action—in other words, our transformation as individuals and as members of communities and institutions. "…these are the surest ways you can hasten the fulfillment of the promise of world peace." Click here to register.
