February Activities 2025

Excitement is building in Bahá'í communities here and around the world as everyone looks forward to some special times of the year!

Beginning at sunset February 24, four days of Ayyám-i-Há will be celebrated. These days are Intercalary Days, in between two of the nineteen months of the Bahá'í calendar, and occur immediately before the 19 days of the Bahá'í sunrise-to-sunset Fast. They are times for service, charity, gifts, parties, and other special activities that families and communities choose. Check the Activities calendar later this month for newly-added Ayyám-i-Há events.

Selected activities: See more on the Activities calendar. The Portland, Beaverton, and Vancouver Bahá'í Centers each host weekly in-person devotional gatherings on Sunday, and there are many virtual gatherings throughout the week. You are warmly invited to all the activities!

Contact your nearby Bahá’í friends, we’d love to talk!

Interfaith Devotions: Beaverton Bahá’í Center

Sunday Feb. 2 and every Sunday, 10:30-11:30. Bahá’í Center, 5355 SW Murray Blvd, Beaverton, OR 97005.

This week the theme is Four Kinds of Love. What does this mean? Love (attraction) is the force that holds the universe together and makes it work - this principle is found in many religious traditions as evidenced by the readings for this Sunday's program.

The four kinds of love are the Love of God for humanity and creation; second the Love of humanity for God; the third is the love of God towards the Self or Identity of God; the fourth is the love of humanity for humanity and for all creation.

Everyone of all ages is welcome!  Bring your friends for a pleasant spiritual experience. There will be a period for open prayers and singing. We have a free children's program at the same time as the interfaith devotions.

Youth Night: Beaverton Bahá’í Center

Saturday Feb. 15, 5-8 pm. 5355 SW Murray Blvd, Beaverton, OR 97005. The world is lost in divisive conflict. Resolution, connection, understanding, growth, and unity are possible, but not unless we learn to talk with each other. Consultation is one of the important keys to moving from division in conflict into unity in our diversity (of thought, lived experience, understanding, etc.).

"Consultation bestoweth greater awareness and transmuteth conjecture into certitude. It is a shining light which, in a dark world, leadeth the way and guideth. For everything there is and will continue to be a station of perfection and maturity. The maturity of the gift of understanding is made manifest through consultation."  — Bahá’í Writings

We will be engaging in Consultation Workshops led by Sara DeHoff where young folks will be encouraged to consult on what they want to do with Youth Night going forward, in addition to other topics of their choosing. The hope is that they will build their capacity to consult in general, and organize youth events inspired by their own knowledge and experiences. Social time may continue after 8:00.

Dinner is included. Please RSVP so we don’t waste money and food.

Please reach out to Lua 503-504-4288 lua.weatherdon@gmail.com with questions, comments, or to RSVP.

Free; as always at the Center there are no donations. Youth Night is monthly and geared for middle and high-schoolers. Bring your friends!

Public event by Bahá'í Chair for World Peace

A virtual conference that brings together diverse speakers, scholars, artists, and activists who advocate for racial eliminativism, the bold belief that to truly end racism, we must dismantle the very notion of “race” itself.

The Bahá’í Chair for World Peace at the University of Maryland is an endowed academic program that advances interdisciplinary examination and discourse on global peace.

From the National Center for Race Amity:

“An American Story: Race Amity and The Other Tradition is a one-hour documentary that explores iconic episodes in our nation’s history, some well-known and others less so, where people from vastly different backgrounds came together to achieve what they never could have accomplished separately.

…As a follow up to the documentary, NCRA collaborated with WHS Media Productions LLC to produce a series of five half-hour programs, American Stories: Race Amity and The Other Tradition. Each  program delves into additional inspirational stories of the power of race amity in advancing race unity, access and equity.

The five-part series made its debut in Boston television market on MLK Day 2021 and is distributed nationally on public television stations.”
